On March 11, 2002, at 6:55 PM, the light memorial was turned on near ground zero. Unfortunately the digital photo doesn't do it justice, but if you turn out all the lights and look  really closely, you might be able to make out the lights shining upward, about an inch and a half to the right of the Empire State Building.
